Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior General Practice Pharmacy Technician within our Primary Care Pharmacy Team based within GP practices/care settings in South Ayrshire

Hours:

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

This post is 37hours working the hours of 8.30-4.30, Monday to Friday.
This post is offered on a permanent basis

UK Driving Licence/Car Ownership:

A UK car licence/car ownership is essential to this role.

What you will do:

1. Working with practices and General Practice Clinical Pharmacists to identify specific prescribing initiatives to be undertaken.
2. Working within Primary care settings in NHS Ayrshire & Arran including GP practices and other community settings including clinics, care homes and patients homes.
3. Provide pharmaceutical care to patients in GP practices and care homes, to ensure safe, appropriate and cost effective use of medicines in line with local and national guidelines.
4. Support any activities designed to improve the effectiveness and / or safety of repeat prescribing systems.
5. Deliver all required aspects of the pharmacotherapy service as per agreed work plans in each practice. This may include medicines reconciliation, serial prescribing, medication review and acute prescribing in line with local and national protocols, guidelines and service specifications.
6. Works with Hospital Pharmacy Team on prescribing

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential:

7. N/SVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services and SQA National Certificate pharmaceutical sciences (or equivalent).
8. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable:

9. Currently working to or completed further qualification in their related field SQA Higher National Unit Final Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician or equivalent qualification
10. PDA Assessment & Supply of individual patients medicines
11. Assessor (L&D9DI) for SVQ Level 2 and Level 3 Pharmacy Services

Essential:

12. Relevant experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital, community pharmacy or primary care.
13. Portfolio demonstrating competence of previous and current pharmacy practice skills & knowledge, and continuing professional development.

Essential:

14. Computer literate with knowledge of information technology including Microsoft Office.
15. Good communication skills (oral and written).
16. Good interpersonal skills
