We are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. You will regulate to protect people and the environment from emissions and help mitigate and adapt to climate change as part of the UK’s drive to Net Zero by 2050.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other industry players)
* respond to incidents as a central part of the role, including availability to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support
The Energy & COMAH team is part of Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation within the Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts set standards for our sectors and provide strategic direction, guidance and training to deliver new duties and best practice in environmental regulation.
Experience / qualifications
* ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively encourage diversity considerations in work
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, with experience of combustion processes; knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
