Beacon Hill Academy is a specialist school based in South Ockendon, Essex, catering to students aged 3–19 years with a range of physical, neurological, and learning difficulties. You'll work closely with the HR Manager and wider school team, developing your administrative, communication, and organisational skills while contributing to the smooth operation of the Academy.
Apprenticeship Summary:
* Salary: £7.55 per hour
* Working Week: Monday – Thursday, 9:00am to 4:00pm (30-minute break), Friday 9:00am to 1:00pm
* Hours: 30 hours per week
* Training: Online apprenticeship training supported by skilled tutors

The Role:
We are seeking a Business Administrator Apprentice to provide essential administrative support to the HR Manager and other departments. You'll be involved in a variety of administrative and organisational tasks, learning how to prioritise workload, handle sensitive information, and deliver professional communication within a busy school environment.
Main Duties:
* Provide day-to-day administrative support to the HR Manager and wider team.
* Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding issues concerning staff and pupils.
* Maintain, update, and file HR records both electronically and in hard copy.
* Assist with all aspects of recruitment following school policies and safeguarding guidelines.
* Organise, book, and prepare for training courses; maintain accurate records.
* Input and retrieve data from the Academy's Management Information Systems (MIS) and HR Portals.
* Manage filing systems and ensure they remain clear, efficient, and up to date.
* Type correspondence including emails, memos, letters, reports, and meeting minutes.
* Make and receive telephone calls, copy, laminate, and scan documents.
* Arrange meetings, manage paperwork, and maintain electronic diaries.
* Learn to take minutes during meetings and transcribe them accurately.
* Support HR Manager and SLT with preparation of documents, publications, and projects.
* Assist with the organisation and administration of special events across the Academy.
* Cover for absent colleagues in the general office and Post-16 area when necessary.
* Liaise with external agencies as required.
* Prepare meeting rooms (e.g., refreshments) and maintain staffroom and foyer materials.
The Candidate:
The successful candidate will have:
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
* Some experience or familiarity with Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint (desirable).
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
* A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
They will also be:

Training and Development:
As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include:
* Study towards a relevant qualification, Level 3 Business Administrator Diploma.
* On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced professionals.
* Regular review meetings to track progress and development.
