Are you looking to start a career in the rail industry or seeking a career change? DB Cargo UK is on an ambitious journey to become Europe’s leading rail logistics provider with a long-term plan to shift traffic from roads, protect our climate and grow the economy. We are looking for Mobile Operatives to join us as part of our ground staff team. As a Mobile Operative you’ll be on the go each day by preparing our trains so they’re safe to go on their journey for our customers.
Rail is one of the safest and most eco-friendly means of transport with one freight train able to carry materials to build homes and replace millions of truck movements each year. You’ll contribute to reducing carbon emissions and shifting traffic from roads to rail.

Responsibilities
* Train preparation; shunting, marshalling
* Train dispatch
* Problem solving
* Railway yard management
* Ensuring the safe operations of trains
* Contribute to service delivery and influence the service offered to customers
* Work across varied sites including DB Cargo UK sites and infrastructure worksites as required
* Work outside in all weather conditions
* Flexibility to work shifts, including unsociable hours; standard 35 hours per week
Qualifications
* Previous rail experience is a bonus but not essential; full training provided
* High motivation and commitment to work
* Flexible approach to shift work
* Experience of teamwork and lone working
* Ability to follow instructions from the person in charge
* Extremely safety focused
* Full UK manual driving licence
* Located within a 60 minute commute of the hub location
Benefits
* Full training into the role (5 weeks residential training)
* Starting salary: £30,412 per annum plus shift allowance of £3,936 per annum
* After probation: £31,825 per annum + shift allowance
