Job Title: Primary Classroom Support – SEND Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support)

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 5/6). This role is ideal for a compassionate, patient, and proactive individual who is committed to supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential in a mainstream primary classroom.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored 1:1 support to a pupil with SEND, adapting learning activities to meet their individual needs
* Work closely with the class teacher to implement personalised learning plans and strategies
* Support the pupil’s academic, social, and emotional development
* Assist with behaviour management using positive reinforcement and agreed strategies
* Help the pupil access the curriculum and remain engaged during lessons
* Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and SENCO
* Foster independence while offering appropriate levels of support
* Support transitions and unstructured times (e.g. break/lunch) where required
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within a primary school setting
* Strong experience supporting children with SEND (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or learning difficulties)
* Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
* Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
Desirable:
* Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent)
* Experience supporting pupils in Upper Key Stage 2
* Training in behaviour management strategies or SEN interventions
