Would you like to help make a difference to our patients by becoming a Phlebotomist at Ipswich Hospital?
We are looking for phlebotomists to play a key patient‑focused role in our hospital where you will be collecting blood samples directly from patients by venepuncture. This role is both clinic and ward based. You will not be testing samples in the laboratory.
Required communication and IT skills to engage with patients and navigate patient databases.
No prior phlebotomy experience required; full training provided.
Part‑time posts available. You will work a variety of shifts within the week, ranging 07:30–18:00. All phlebotomy staff participate in cover of weekdays, weekends, bank holidays, including Christmas, on a rota basis, and cover short‑notice absences.
We look for individuals who understand the changing services of phlebotomy and will represent the service going forward.
Main duties of the job
* Collect blood samples directly from patients by venepuncture
* Accurate identification of patient and labelling of samples
* Required to perform duties in various locations, e.g. Out‑patient departments, wards and general practice
* Responsible for data entry onto the computer system
* Maintains records in relation to activities carried out
* Work in the hospital ward environment with patients who may be severely debilitated
* Communication with all patients of varying needs
* Adhere strictly to established protocols and trust policies
* Maintain and promote professional image of ESNEFT

Person Specification
Education
* GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent grade C/4 or above or substantial practical phlebotomy experience
Knowledge & Experience
* Understanding of role and activities associated with the post
* Knowledge of healthcare IT systems
* Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
* Clinical healthcare experience
* Experience working with the public in a public/patient facing role
* Experience working with the public/patients across all age ranges and with varying needs in terms of language skills and physical capabilities
* Knowledge of infection control

* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
