Overview
As the Senior Warehousing & Distribution Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across our two Glasgow warehouse sites — our main distribution centre and our tile warehouse. Sitting between the Head of Operations and the Warehouse Manager, you are responsible for driving performance, ensuring high operational standards, and delivering safe, efficient, and compliant warehouse operations.
This is a senior role for an experienced leader with a strong background in warehouse operations, stockholding environments, KPI management, and team leadership. This role does not involve courier depot management, route planning, or last-mile delivery management — instead, it focuses on warehouse performance, stock accuracy, operational process excellence, and leadership of warehouse teams and managers.
You will line manage the Warehouse Manager and work closely with both site teams to deliver outstanding operational results.
Main Responsibilities
Multi-Site Operational Leadership
* Provide senior leadership across both warehouse sites, ensuring consistent standards, processes, and performance.
* Hold overall accountability for warehouse operations including stock control, goods-in, goods-out, despatch, and on-site distribution activity.
* Line manage the Warehouse Manager, setting clear objectives, providing coaching and support, and holding accountability for day-to-day execution.
* Ensure effective resourcing, workflow planning, and capacity management across both sites to meet current and future demand.
* Ensure all operational activity is planned and delivered in a safe and compliant manner, with health and safety considerations embedded into operational decision-making.
* Act as the senior escalation point for operational issues, service disruptions, or site-level challenges, and serious safety incidents.
Performance, KPIs & Continuous Improvement
* Own and drive warehouse-specific KPIs such as stock accuracy, productivity, picking efficiency, despatch performance, quality, and cost control.
* Establish and monitor H&S KPIs alongside productivity, quality, and cost measures.
* Analyse performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for efficiency, quality, and cost improvements.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives, embedding SMART objectives and methodologies such as 5S across both sites.
* Drive consistency in ways of working while adapting solutions to suit the specific needs of each warehouse environment.
* Ensure safety standards are maintained at all times, including during periods of peak demand, change, or operational pressure.
People Leadership & Development
* Build and maintain a strong management structure across both sites through effective leadership and succession planning.
* Coach and develop the Warehouse Manager to strengthen leadership capability and operational effectiveness.
* Oversee people management within the operational function, ensuring fair, consistent application of HR policies and procedures.
* Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and development planning across both warehouse teams.
* Ensure managers and supervisors clearly understand and effectively discharge their H&S responsibilities.
* Address unsafe behaviours or breaches promptly and consistently through coaching, corrective action, or formal processes where required.
* Foster an engaged, accountable, and high-performing culture aligned to company values.
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Hold senior accountability for health, safety, and legal compliance across both warehouse locations.
* Ensure full compliance with H&S legislation and company safety policies.
* Oversee risk assessments, safe systems of work, and incident reporting processes.
* Ensure high standards of safety in manual handling, equipment use, working at height, and all warehouse activities.
* Lead safety audits and ensure correct actions are completed.
Collaboration & Business Alignment
* Work closely with Purchasing, Sales, and Customer Services to align stock availability, lead times, and customer commitments.
* Ensure clear communication and coordination between warehouse locations to avoid duplication, inefficiencies, or stock discrepancies.
* Contribute to wider business planning, operational projects, and change initiatives as part of the senior operations leadership team.
Person Specification
We are looking for a senior operations leader with:
* Significant experience leading warehouse operations in stockholding, manufacturing, distribution-centre, or similar environment.
* Experience must include managing warehouse teams, stock management, and performance KPIs rather than courier/parcel routing or fleet operations.
* Proven leadership or managers and warehouse teams across complex or multi-site operations.
* Strong experience owning and improving warehouse KPIs and operational processes.
* Excellent understanding of UK Health & Safety requirements within a warehouse setting.
* Strong analytical skills and experience using data to drive operational excellence.
* High levels of organisation, planning, and prioritisation, with the ability to manage multiple operational demands.
* Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders.
* A proactive, structured approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Our Values, Your Actions
01. We Are Family
You create a positive, connected culture across both sites, where people feel supported, safe, and accountable. You lead visibly, address issues early, and ensure wellbeing and safety are never compromised.
02. Trust & Respect
You lead with integrity, consistency, and fairness, setting clear expectations and holding leaders accountable for performance and safety. Your decisions build confidence and reinforce high standards.
03. Learn & Be Curious
You use data, insight, and operational learning to improve performance and reduce risk. You encourage continuous improvement, learning from incidents, and smarter ways of working.
04. Customer Obsession
You ensure operational decisions deliver reliable, accurate, and safe outcomes for customers. You balance service, efficiency, and compliance without cutting corners.
05. Deliver Outstanding Results
You drive strong operational and safety performance through clear KPIs, disciplined execution, and continuous improvement. You deliver results the right way — safely, legally, and sustainably.
