Job Overview
The Activities Director plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in home settings. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing engaging recreational activities tailored to the interests and needs of seniors, including those with Alzheimer's and dementia. The Activities Director will work closely with residents, families, and staff to foster a supportive environment that promotes social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and overall well-being.
Duties
* Develop and implement a diverse range of recreational programs that cater to the physical, emotional, and social needs of residents.
* Coordinate special events, outings, and holiday celebrations to encourage community involvement and resident participation.
* Assess individual resident interests and abilities to create personalized activity plans.
* Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure activities align with residents' health care plans and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed.
* Maintain accurate records of participation in activities and evaluate program effectiveness regularly.
* Train and supervise volunteers or staff assisting in activity programs.
* Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members regarding upcoming events and individual resident needs.
* Stay informed about aging issues, recreational therapy techniques, and best practices in senior care.
Skills
* Proven experience in event planning within assisted living or long-term care environments.
* Familiarity with Alzheimer's care, memory care, dementia care, and working with individuals with disabilities.
* Background in caregiving or social work is highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents and their families.
* Ability to manage schedules efficiently while balancing multiple activities simultaneously.
* Knowledge of aging issues counseling to support residents emotionally and socially.
