Location: Thickthorn Junction Contract Type: Freelance / Outside IR35 Duration: Immediate start 31st October Rate: £600/day About the Role We are seeking an experienced Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) and Engineering Manager to oversee and manage all technical aspects of both temporary and permanent works on a major infrastructure scheme. You will work independently from the delivery team to provide critical judgment on engineering methodologies, design integration, and construction sequencing to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant project execution. Key Responsibilities Manage and coordinate the planning, design, installation, use, and removal of all temporary works, acting as TWC. Lead on method engineering, buildability reviews, and technical sign-off of construction activities. Review and implement technical systems for earthworks, piling, roadworks, bridges, culverts, underpasses, drainage, and lifting operations. Oversee engineering risk management, including ground movement monitoring and critical permit approval (to dig, load, strike). Ensure alignment of temporary and permanent works, managing change control, design integration, and method statement reviews. Oversee the Materials Approval Request (MAR) process to ensure specification-compliant materials only. Support quality assurance, including inspection test plans (ITPs), materials testing, and technical handover. Champion digital delivery, promoting 3D modelling and the digital handover of project data. Requirements Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Experience in temporary works coordination, design and construction integration, and technical assurance. Strong understanding of ground engineering, structures, earthworks, and site investigation. Conversant with industry standards (e.g., Specification for Highway Works, British and European standards). Chartered or working towards chartership with ICE or similar institution (preferred). Proficient in risk, change, value, and cost management. Desirable Attributes Highway and major infrastructure experience. Previous experience on Skanska or National Highways frameworks. Strong communicator and collaborator. Proactive in driving sustainability and digital construction methods.
