We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable Volunteers to join our growing team at Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.
Meet and Greet Volunteers signpost, offer support, and provide a friendly, reassuring presence to ensure that those attending the hospital feel supported and cared for.
A suitable Volunteer for this role should have effective listening and communication skills, treat conversations with discretion and sensitivity, and be confident when talking to patients and visitors. Previous volunteering experience is desirable but not essential. In return, we will provide a staff mentor, ongoing training, and reimbursement of travel expenses. You will also meet other volunteers, learn from each other, and feel a sense of achievement after each shift. The Volunteer Services Team will support you to develop in this role.
If you can reliably provide 3-4 hours per week (Mon-Sun, 8am-8pm) and wish to support patients and families, then this role may be for you! You may enjoy this role so much that you want to give more time, so speak with us about your availability and commitment.
Minimum age to apply is 17, and we ask for at least a 9-month commitment to volunteering.
All successful applicants need to undergo an Enhanced Access NI check before starting. Two references are required, and applicants will undergo Occupational Health screening.
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Offer a welcoming presence in reception and ED areas
* Assist in accompanying walking patients/families from reception to wards/outpatient clinics, if required
* Signpost patients and visitors to key services
* Escalate any concerns regarding patients to clinical or administrative staff as appropriate
Additional Tasks and Responsibilities
* Meet and greet service users and provide a warm welcome
* Listen and respond to service users’ needs
* Help service users access the information they require
Skills and experience gained include communication skills, community development, interpersonal skills, self-awareness, teamwork, and time management.
