Main duties of the job
Screening and assessing Children and Young people where there is consent for CAMHS to become involved
Determining whether further therapeutic work would be beneficial. Liaising with further services where more input is needed and sharing any risk concerns.
To provide ongoing work to children and young people who would like to continue accessing therapeutic support.
Provide a flexible approach to therapeutic support. Generally working with children up to the completion of court order where necessary.
To provide consultation spaces, offering one hour bi-monthly to each case manager to consult on their caseload of children and young people to identify any mental health concerns, support with delivery of intervention.
Attend weekly Early intervention and Diversion panel meeting (Multi-agency meeting) where all children and young people who have come into contact with the police are discussed
Offer mental health screening to children and young people who are discussed at the Early Intervention Diversion panel when necessary, reviewing EIDP Children and young people’s case notes on health care records and summarize on need-to-know basis
Providing a CAMHS service within YJS in line with service level agreement and Key performance indicators

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. A professional qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, Family Therapy or other core mental health discipline.
2. Registration with relevant professional body (e.g. HCPC, NMC, ACP, UKCP)
Skills / abilities
Essential criteria
3. High level knowledge of psychological theory and practice relevant to anti-social and offending young people e.g. social learning theory and cognitive behavioural therapy.
4. Knowledge and skills in the use of psychological and psychometric methods of mental health assessment, intervention and management of children and young people.
5. Ability to acquire and apply a highly collaborative, team-based model of working to deliver high quality health care to challenging, disadvantaged and young people with high level of complexity and contextual safeguarding, and their families in non-health settings.
6. Ability to form good working relationships and work flexibly with colleagues and clients in multidisciplinary, multi-agency and criminal justice settings.
7. Knowledge and skills in the effective verbal and written communication of complex, highly technical and / or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues.
8. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.
9. Ability to type own letters, reports, and maintain notes on our RIO and Child View electronic client records.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
10. Experience of generic and discipline-specific and forensic mental health assessments and treatments of children and families across a range of ages.
11. Experience of multidisciplinary team meetings and co-working assessments and treatment.
12. Experience of working with children and young people with conduct disorder or people with current / historical offending behaviour.
13. Experience of joint working with staff in community settings who may not have mental health backgrounds.
14. Knowledge of legislation and national policies relevant to children and young people, e.g. safeguarding and child protection, the Common Assessment Framework.
