The Digital and Information Services Directorate at Queen’s University Belfast is currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Librarian/Project Archivist to work in the Special Collections & Archives Department based in the award-winning McClay Library.
Special Collections and Archives provides access to the library’s rare books and manuscript collection, as well as modern material relating to Ireland and Ulster in particular. The collections include books, pamphlets, journals, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, and maps of lasting research value. The library has recently acquired several modern political collections.
The postholder will be responsible to the Head of Special Collections & Archives for duties related to the cataloguing and preservation of these collections in accordance with recognised professional standards.
The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:
* A relevant qualification in Archival Management or Library and Information Studies, or be working towards such a qualification, OR a degree in a relevant subject such as politics or history, OR substantial relevant experience working in archives or special collections.
* Relevant professional experience in a similar or related role, including:
o Understanding of current trends in digital resource management
o Well-developed independent research skills
o Experience in training or teaching groups of various sizes
* Detailed professional knowledge of archive standards, management practices, academic library operations, and trends in information management and delivery.
* Operational knowledge of at least one of the following:
o Archival and/or Library Management Systems
o Resource discovery and management tools
o Digital Asset Management and Preservation
