Specialist Clinical Technologist/Trainee Clinical Technologist

The closing date is 01 September 2025

The Nuclear Medicine Service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton is progressive and friendly. It provides a full range of diagnostic imaging and non-imaging studies along with a number of molecular radiotherapy treatments. The department has modern facilities with three gamma cameras, two with SPECT-CT, and its own dedicated Radiopharmacy manufacturing unit. There are also plans to install a fourth gamma camera with diagnostic CT capability in the next 12 months.

Applications from registered Radiographers, wishing to work in Nuclear Medicine or individuals with a BSc. Honours Degree in a physical science or a subject with a significant science component are also welcome. Specialist training will be provided, tailored to your entry qualification. This will involve theoretical and practical study through the completion of a post graduate diploma in nuclear medicine, alongside production of a practical training portfolio leading to application to join the RCT register for Clinical Technologists. All course tuition fees and expenses associated with any required academic study will be met by the Nuclear Medicine Department.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and caring individuals with an attention to detail; good time management and planning skills to join our team of Clinical Technologists, Associate Technologists and Clinical Scientists to participate in the full range of nuclear medicine practice within the department.

You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the department's diagnostic imaging and non-imaging work with adult and paediatric patients including all methods of radiopharmaceutical administration, image acquisition and image processing. You will also work within the Radiopharmacy and be involved in both the manufacture and dispensing of Radiopharmaceuticals and also blood cell labelling. You will perform routine equipment quality control.

The posts would suit those with established nuclear medicine practice experience or recently qualified individuals. This is a great opportunity to develop practice skills in a friendly, busy department that covers a broad scope of nuclear medicine procedures. Ideally, applicants should be on, or eligible to apply to, the AHCS or RCT registers for Clinical Technologists; or HCPC register if a radiographer. The department plays an active role in a range of training activities, and we will support your development and professional registration with access to training, mentoring, wellbeing and personal development opportunities.

Interview date: 15 September 2025
