Early Years Apprentice
Salary: Set in accordance with current National Apprenticeship Wage regulations.
Contract: Fixed term, 40 hours per week.
Role Purpose
The Early Years Apprentice supports the delivery of high‑quality early education and care for children aged 0–5 while completing a recognised Early Years apprenticeship qualification. Working under the guidance of the Room Manager, Deputy Nursery Manager and Nursery Manager, the apprentice will develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work safely and effectively in an early years setting. The role combines practical, hands‑on experience with structured learning and training.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare and Learning Support
* Support children’s learning, development and wellbeing through play‑based activities and daily routines, under supervision.
* Assist with creating a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment where children feel secure and valued.
* Support planned activities in line with the EYFS, learning through observation and guided practice.
* Help prepare resources and learning environments for activities and routines.
Safeguarding, Health and Safety
* Follow all safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and welfare procedures at all times.
* Support children’s personal care routines, including hygiene, meals and rest, in line with nursery policies.
* Report any concerns regarding children’s wellbeing to a senior member of staff immediately.
Partnership with Parents and Carers
* Greet children and families warmly and professionally.
* Support positive relationships with parents and carers, sharing information as directed by senior staff.
* Observe professional communication with families and learn how to support transitions.
Teamwork and Professional Development
* Work as part of the room team, supporting colleagues and contributing positively to the nursery environment.
* Attend all required training sessions, coursework, reviews and assessments linked to the apprenticeship programme.
* Reflect on learning and practice, using feedback to support personal development.
* Demonstrate professionalism, reliability and a willingness to learn at all times.
Learning and Development (Apprenticeship)
* Complete a recognised Early Years apprenticeship qualification within the agreed timeframe.
* Build knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding, child development and inclusive practice.
* Develop practical skills through supervised work, mentoring and coaching.
* Gradually increase responsibility as competence and confidence grow.

* A genuine interest in working with young children and developing a career in early years.
* Willingness to learn, develop and complete an apprenticeship qualification.
* Positive, caring and enthusiastic attitude.
* Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance from senior staff.
* Good communication skills and a professional approach.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing.
* Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one).
Desirable
* Previous experience working or volunteering with children.
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, or willingness to work towards them if required.
