Job Description Overview
Senior or Principal Groundwater Modeller – UK. The role is based at Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Epsom, Glasgow, London, Oxford, Peterborough, Warrington/Manchester, with flexibility for location across the UK.
Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of groundwater modelling projects for water companies, regulators and major water users.
* Build, update and validate conceptual and numerical groundwater models at regional scale.
* Interpret modelling results and provide clear recommendations on abstraction impacts, resource optimisation and environmental assessments.
* Support client relationships and contribute to bid development and technical leadership.
* Mentor junior staff and provide training in modelling techniques, software and best practices.
* Apply hydrogeological expertise to other water‑resources applications, including surface‑water supply, strategic planning and environmental studies.
Qualifications
* Degree in science, engineering or mathematics; postgraduate qualification in hydrogeology or a related subject. Chartered status through a relevant professional body is preferred.
* Extensive experience in groundwater modelling for UK water resources, including MODFLOW (ideally MODFLOW6) and recharge models such as 4R or SWAc.
* Experience with UK regional groundwater models and hydrogeological investigations such as WINEP studies, pumping and signal tests, borehole design, groundwater flooding and water‑resource planning.
* Proficiency in Python, R, Fortran, VBA or similar, with GIS skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage full project life‑cycle stages from problem definition to reporting.
* Excellent analytical, numerical, report‑writing and presentation skills; proactive and detail‑oriented.
* Valid full UK driving licence.
