Qualifications
* Extensive experience in highways construction management in the UK.
* Skilled in highways works delivery and comfortable interfacing with highways authorities and stakeholders.
* Cost control and commercial awareness are ideal.
* Excellent risk, quality and safety management skills, with deep understanding of CDM, safe systems of work and construction phase planning.
* Proven track record of leading teams, subcontractors and supply chains to deliver highway infrastructure work.
* Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Knowledge of relevant highways standards, codes of practice and specifications (e.g., NRSWA, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Specification for Highway Works, Traffic Signs Manual).
* SMSTS or equivalent site management safety training.
* CSCS.
* Full UK driving licence.
* First Aid at Work.
STRABAG - More than just a construction company We have a unique opportunity to join a landmark clean‑water infrastructure scheme that also involves significant highway and access infrastructure works to support the permanent scheme and temporary construction logistics. This presents a significant opportunity to deliver highway construction within a nationally significant infrastructure programme under a Tier 1 design‑and‑build contractor.
As a Highways Construction Manager, you will lead the planning, delivery and completion of packages of the highway and road infrastructure works associated with the scheme. You will manage multi‑disciplinary teams, ensure safe, efficient delivery on time and at budget, and interface with stakeholders, including highways authorities, utility providers, designers and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the construction phase of highway packages, including but not limited to access junctions, road widening, passing bays, road upgrades, temporary bridges and temporary haul roads.
* Develop and manage the construction programme for the responsible highway package.
* Take responsibility for cost control, forecasting and profitability of the highways scope.
* Manage risks and issues proactively: safety, quality, environment, traffic management, utilities interface.
* Oversee and enforce safe systems of work, site inductions, CDM compliance and ensure the highway works reflect the principal contractor’s obligations under the contract and statutory obligations.
* Interface with key stakeholders.
* Work with the design team to ensure the highway construction scope is properly coordinated with the permanent works, utilities diversions, and site logistics.
* Work with the consents team to ensure that all the planning obligations have been discharged prior to commencement and are continually met throughout the delivery.
* Monitor subcontractor and supply chain performance, enforce quality control, manage inspection and acceptance of works.
* Embed and promote environmental practices in line with contractual and stakeholder requirements.
* Ensure traffic and public interface obligations are met, including temporary traffic management, community liaison, disruption mitigation and reinstatement.
* Develop the culture of site operatives and set safe and accountable behaviours.
* Highlight and report any bottlenecks within work fronts to the leadership team.
