Applications are invited for an exciting opportunity as an Area Lighting Engineer to lead the Street Lighting team within the Roads Service of Falkirk Council.
It's a great time to join Falkirk. Our 'Council of the Future' programme supports a more enabled workforce, encouraging exploration and testing of new ways of working and fostering holistic collaboration across service areas.
The role involves organizing and planning all operations related to street lighting, including managing and controlling the street lighting maintenance budgets and capital works programmes. The post holder will serve as the first point of contact for Elected Members, the public, and local organizations on all street lighting matters within the Falkirk Council Area, including asset management, maintenance of existing lighting stock, installation of new lighting, and maintaining asset inventory records.
Requirements include a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Ideally, candidates will also have a postgraduate qualification in Management or Team Leading, or equivalent, and be members of the Institution of Lighting Engineers. The successful candidate will possess commercial and financial acumen, with a solid understanding of commercial and contractual principles, as well as a focus on health and safety matters. Experience working at a senior level in a local government Roads direct labour environment is essential, along with the ability to manage and motivate employees and foster good employee relations.
This service is high profile and under constant public scrutiny. Therefore, the service must be flexible, innovative, and responsive to public demands and pressures, as effective service delivery directly impacts public confidence in Council services.
