About the role

We are looking for a motivated and community‑focused Community Engagement Support Officer to join our Community Engagement team. This role plays a key part in supporting a wide range of initiatives across St Albans City and District that help communities to thrive and have a voice in shaping local priorities.

Working as part of a supportive team, you will help deliver our Community Engagement work programme, including voluntary and community sector grants, the Community Lottery, and a range of events and partnership projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with communities, building relationships, and supporting projects that make a real difference to people’s lives.

What you’ll be doing

You will support the delivery of the Community Engagement Team’s work programme by working collaboratively with colleagues, partners and communities to shape and deliver community engagement activity that reflects organisational priorities and equality, diversity and inclusion commitments. Through a co‑productive approach, you will help build positive relationships, support accessible engagement across the District, and ensure a diverse range of voices are heard, contributing to fair access to opportunities. You will also work alongside colleagues to support the administration and monitoring of Voluntary and Community Sector Grants and the Community Lottery, including data gathering and reporting, and assisting with the planning and delivery of key events such as Older People’s Day, the Parish Conference, and other engagement activity as required.

About you

You will be a strong and reliable team player, with a collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to working alongside colleagues and partners to deliver positive outcomes for communities. You will bring strong people skills and a values‑led approach, with the ability to listen, communicate clearly and build positive, trusting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including community and voluntary organisations.

You will have experience working in a community, voluntary, public or customer‑facing environment, supporting projects, events or funding activity. You will be highly organised and dependable, able to manage your workload, keep accurate records and balance competing priorities, while confidently using your initiative.

You will be sensitive and professional when working with community organisations and challenging situations, demonstrating empathy, fairness and sound judgement. Experience of using data to support monitoring or reporting is welcomed, alongside a willingness to learn and develop.

St Albans is a unique English Cathedral City with a colourful history that can be seen in the Roman and medieval remains and a variety of beautiful architecture, heritage sites and conservation areas. Set within green belt, off the M25, A1M and M1, the District includes a cathedral, vibrant city centre and thriving town and villages. Our centrally located offices in the city are near to the station (London St Pancras 20 minutes), shops and restaurants. In short it is a great place to live and work.
