CORE PURPOSE We require an ambitious, intellectually rigorous Science Teacher to deliver high-quality biology, chemistry, and physics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Operating within a distinct, values-driven faith environment, the successful candidate will facilitate a challenging curriculum that bridges empirical scientific inquiry with deep ethical, moral, and pastoral development, preparing pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE public examinations and future STEM pathways. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Curriculum Design & Laboratory Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver highly structured, practical-led science lessons across all three disciplines, ensuring pupils master scientific methodologies and complex theoretical models. Safe Practical Execution: Coordinate and manage laboratory practicals with absolute adherence to health and safety standards (CLEAPSS guidelines), training pupils in the safe handling of chemicals, glassware, and specialized apparatus. Academic Progress Monitoring: Implement systematic formative and summative assessment routines, tracking student performance metrics across required practical tasks and written papers to design targeted, data-led interventions. Examination Preparation: Guide Key Stage 4 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal GCSE Combined Science or Separate Sciences specifications, maximizing progress and attainment outcomes. Faith-Based Pastoral Care: Undertake full form tutor responsibilities, actively supporting the school's Christian ethos by leading daily collective worship, structured reflections, and contributing to the academy’s distinctive pastoral care framework. ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE Values-Driven Framework: Operating under a dedicated diocesan framework, our academy balances a rigorous academic drive with a strong emphasis on community, spiritual growth, and character development. Behaviour Systems: The campus implements a highly consistent, community-focused behaviour policy rooted in mutual respect and accountability. Classrooms and laboratories remain calm, respectful, and entirely optimized for collaborative and safe scientific discovery. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related scientific discipline. Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations through explicit, concept-first science pedagogy. Ethos Alignment: Willingness to actively support and embed the Christian character, values, and daily pastoral routines of a Church of England academy, welcoming candidates of all faiths or none. REGIONAL CONTEXT Industrial Heritage & Nottinghamshire Renewal: Based in the historic market town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, the school operates within a tight-knit community shaped by a proud mining and textile heritage, now driving modern redevelopment in engineering, retail, and healthcare sectors. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The locality offers excellent East Midlands transport links, providing seamless road commuting via the close M1 motorway corridor (Junctions 27, 28, and 29) and the A38. Public transit runs smoothly through Mansfield railway station, which operates frequent East Midlands Railway services along the Robin Hood Line directly to Nottingham and Worksop.
