This vacancy is for internal applicants only. About the role We are looking for an experienced Paper Conservator to join the Conservation & Heritage Science Section. You will become part of a team of 20 specialists - comprising trained conservators, technicians and administrative staff - working to preserve, stabilise and improve access to the Bodleian Libraries' collections. We actively participate in research, specialist training, external collaborations and public engagement activities. You will independently carry out the conservation treatment of Special Collections in bound format as well as scrolls, large items and single sheet material within agreed procedures and schedules, and prepare accurate treatment proposals and conservation reports. Your work will focus primarily on the treatment of paper, and parchment as well as papyrus, birch bark and palm leaf and the stabilisation of vulnerable media. You are expected to contribute with specialised skills to the preparation and installation of exhibitions and loans. You will respond to the current needs of the libraries and provide an appropriate level of service. This is a permanent, full-time post working 37.5 hours per week. About You You will be passionate and knowledgeable about the conservation of library collections. You will have relevant qualifications and good experience in paper conservation and collection care activities to contribute to the work of the Paper Conservation team and the broader Conservation and Heritage Science Section. You will have good communication skills to engage with a wide range of audiences, a flexible approach to work and excellent interpersonal skills.
