We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Craftsperson (Garage Mechanic) to support production and the continued running of the plant by carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks, secondary repairs, and breakdown repairs.

About Us

Established since 1929, ALVANCE British Aluminium, part of the GFG Alliance, owns and operates the last remaining aluminium production plant (smelter) in the UK and a connected hydropower electricity generation station located on the slopes of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. A combination of renewable energy sources makes this site one of the greenest metal production plants in the country.

The Role

As a Mechanical Craftsperson, you will keep the plant running through planned maintenance, mechanical repairs, and rapid breakdown support, while promoting a reliability-focused maintenance culture and working closely with the operations team.

Working hours

* Monday - Thursday - 8:00am - 4:30pm
* Friday - 8:00am - 3:30pm
* Breaks are paid

Duties and Responsibilities

* Ensure Planned and Preventative Maintenance is carried out on plant and equipment as required in a timely manner.
* Diagnose and fault find mechanical breakdowns, and identify the quickest and most cost-effective long-term solutions.
* Support the Maintenance Team's objective of a reliability focus.
* Maintain all mechanical equipment to current statutory, regulatory, and company standards.
* Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the working environment.
* Use and maintain P.P.E. at all times.
* Use and maintain tooling according to specifications and conditions.
* Report and assist in reporting potential hazards, in line with Health and Safety expectations.
* Complete reports of work performed as per Maintenance Engineer’s expectations.
* Carry out all maintenance activities in line with Safety Standards.
* Conduct tasks only with a Risk Assessment and brief all involved, including a Take 5.
* Ensure all tools, plant, or equipment are safe and functional before use; report any defective items.
* Work safely, avoiding unnecessary risks and improvisation.
* Ensure personnel under charge are adequately trained before task assignment.
* Report all accidents and incidents immediately.
* Provide clear safety instructions and ensure compliance.
* Perform other HSEQ-related activities as required by the business.
