Team and role overview
Climate change is a key priority for BII, as outlined in our 2022-2026 corporate strategy and Climate Change Strategy. BII is committed to implementing the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). These initiatives set an ambitious agenda aligned with the Paris Agreement.
Role Overview
The Climate team is hiring a Manager to oversee strategic advice, transaction support, and portfolio management within BII’s Financial Services Group (FSG). FSG invests in banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) through equity, debt, funds, and structured products, including trade and supply chain finance. The role involves working across BII regions to support early-stage origination, due diligence, and portfolio management, ensuring investments are Paris aligned.
Responsibilities
* Origination/Business Development: Support FSG in developing strategies for climate-related transactions that meet impact and financial objectives, including new areas like transition finance and resilience.
* Due Diligence/Closing: Evaluate potential investments for impact on emissions mitigation and resilience, assess Paris alignment, and implement climate action in legal documentation.
* Portfolio Management: Provide climate advisory, develop standard technical assistance offerings, and support climate capacity building for FIs.
* Cross-cutting: Act as a climate expertise focal point, develop tools for Paris alignment assessment, oversee climate risk integration, and monitor climate performance metrics.
The Candidate
Essential Skills:
* Strong knowledge of climate investing, policy, and financial services products.
* Familiarity with climate standards (e.g., TCFD, Green Bond Principles, SBTI, PCAF).
* Understanding of climate science and policy, and experience in integrating climate considerations into investment decisions.
* Experience providing climate advisory and managing data across sources.
* Excellent research, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills:
* Knowledge of capital deployment for development impact and the investment cycle.
* Motivation aligned with BII’s development mission and social impact commitments.
