Salary: £48,277 to £52,413 per annum inclusive of Local Weighting Allowance

Slough Borough Council is continuing its improvement journey, with a focus on strong governance, clear decision making and high quality support for elected Members. We are creating a new Leader and Civic Office Manager role to support this work. Based in Democratic Services, you will lead the Leader’s and Civic Office and provide trusted support to senior politicians and officers, helping ensure decisions are well planned and effective.
We are looking for an experienced manager who is confident in a political environment, able to work at pace and lead a small team to deliver high standards.
Role Description
* To lead and manage the support services provided to the offices of the Mayor and Leader of the Council
* To provide support to the Leader in forward planning, policy reviews, and liaison with senior stakeholders including the Chief Executive’s office, directors and external organisations such as the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
* To line manage groups’ political assistants
* To support and deputise for the Head of Democratic Services on areas of responsibility encompassed by the role
* To contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the service, working alongside other managers reporting to the Head of Democratic Services.
What we are looking for:
* Experience of managing or supervising postholders operating in a secretariat or administrative type function, ideally in a local authority
* Experience of providing advice, some of which may be of a technical nature, to a variety of individuals
* Experience of carrying out a range of sometimes complex administrative or office management tasks, often under own initiative.
