Pavers is embarking on system modernisation project, aimed at overhauling the entire business technology landscape. Our development team is essential to this and required to apply technical expertise to develop custom software solutions that align with the strategic growth of the company's retail sector. As the Lead Developer, reporting to the Head of Software Development, you will guide a team of developers, leveraging your technical expertise to help the company achieve its ambition of crafting custom software solutions that will support its fast-expanding retail estate.
You will lead in managing existing legacy systems and address technical debt, our priority is to develop solutions that support our growing business. This means not just replacing old systems with new equivalents but reimagining our processes to be simpler and more unified, setting the stage for swift and effortless expansion.
This is a proactive, involved position where you will work in close cooperation with System Architects, Product Managers, Developers, and business stakeholders to comprehend their needs and bring forth scalable, sustainable solutions using cutting edge technologies and best practice methodologies.

Hybrid working can be discussed on a case-by-case basis, but ideally you will be located within commuting distance of our York Head Office (YO26 6QU).
Main duties of our Lead Developer
10. Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to a development team, creating a culture of technical excellence.
11. Manage and cultivate a culture of innovation within the team, encouraging new ideas that drive improvement and innovation.
12. Draft and assess detailed specifications for system components of various complexity levels to ensure alignment with development goals.
13. Engineer software solutions in alignment with business requirements, operating within an agile team framework.
14. Engage in and facilitate code reviews, establishing and enforcing coding standards across the team, including documentation of procedures.
15. Guarantee the creation of industry standard, well-structured, and efficient code.
16. Communicate project progress, outcomes, and technical challenges to the Head of Software Development and relevant stakeholders.
17. Mentor and provide guidance to junior software developers, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
18. Oversee the integration of new technology and methodologies to continually improve the development process.
19. Ensure adherence to software quality assurance standards and conduct regular audits to uphold software integrity and reliability.
About you
20. UK based holding Right to Work status (no sponsorship is offered)
21. Detailed understanding of frameworks React.js, Node.js and .NET
22. Knowledge of T-SQL (SQL Server / MySQL)
23. Minimum of 3-5 years software development experience
24. Ideally you will have previous People Management Experience and experience leading a development team through significant change
25. Demonstratable technical history of systems design and development
26. Experience scoping and estimating work
27. Evidence of Stakeholder Management
