Job Description
AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA is seeking an experienced capital project engineer to be part of the Project Engineering group. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and executing capital projects involving construction and/or renovation of biopharmaceutical manufacturing space, R&D laboratories, and office space. Key responsibilities include:
* Acting as Subject Matter Expert for renovation, new construction, and installation of facility-related equipment.
* Managing capital projects throughout their lifecycle, including scope, schedule, budget, and coordination with departments and contractors.
* Developing scopes, specifications, estimates, and standards for projects.
* Participating in design efforts by identifying scope, gathering requirements, and reviewing design packages.
* Overseeing project schedules to ensure completion within deadlines.
* Providing project status reports to stakeholders.
* Managing procurement processes and generating purchase requisitions.
* Reviewing vendor-fabricated equipment designs and approving vendor submittals, as well as preparing FAT/SAT protocols.
* Reviewing project submittals and RFIs to ensure compliance with standards.
* Interacting with city inspectors and outside contractors.
* Supervising on-site contractors, ensuring safety, scheduling, and proper installation.
* Conducting safety evaluations of contractors.
* Supporting startup activities, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation support.
Qualifications
Education
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience with 8+ years of engineering experience.
Background
* Experience in construction management, utility, process, or equipment projects in biopharmaceutical facilities and R&D labs.
* Knowledge of interior and exterior commercial construction and all trades.
* Understanding of building, architectural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and fire codes.
* Effective multitasking, planning, and organizational skills.
* Construction management training is a plus.
* Ability to lift 25 lbs and navigate pipe racks/ladders.
* PMP certification is advantageous.
* Strong communication skills.
* Leadership, teamwork, and relationship management skills.
* Integrity, reliability, adaptability, and self-motivation.
