NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care Clinical Advisor – Otterbourne
The NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care Clinical Advisor is a vital frontline role responsible for assessing and triaging patient calls, providing immediate advice, and coordinating care across the local health system. Calls cover a wide spectrum – from urgent medical emergencies to routine health concerns – requiring rapid clinical judgement and compassionate communication.
Job Summary
Work full‑time or part‑time in our Otterbourne office. The role includes a 9‑week, fully paid, full‑time training programme designed to equip you with the skills needed to manage a diverse and unpredictable caseload.
Responsibilities
* Clinically assess patient symptoms during telephone calls and determine appropriate care pathways.
* Provide calm, clear, and evidence‑based advice to callers.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including health advisers, nurses, paramedics, mental health practitioners, and pharmacists.
* Maintain accurate records of all interactions in the NHS 111 system.
* Remain composed and professional under pressure, especially when dealing with emotionally charged situations.
* Adhere to clinical governance, audit, and safety standards.
Qualifications & Essential Experience
* Registered general nurse (RN1, RNA), specialist practitioner, or paramedic.
* Valid NMC or HCPC registration.
* At least 3 years of post‑registration clinical experience.
* Experience in triage and customer service environments.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and remain calm under pressure.
* Proficient in computer use and NHS 111 systems.
* Prepared to work 5/8 weekends in a 4‑week period with shifts of 6/8 hours in length.
Desirable Requirements
* Motivation for further professional development.
* Understanding of clinical governance and audit practices.
* Experience in a call‑centre environment such as NHS Direct.
* Supervisory, coaching, or mentoring experience.
* Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing work patterns.
Training & Development
All new clinical advisors undergo a 9‑week, fully paid training programme covering clinical assessment, NHS 111 protocols, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Salary & Contract
Band 6 – £39,959 to £48,117 per annum pro‑rata. The position is permanent, with both full‑time and part‑time working patterns available.
