Wood Process & Energy is currently recruiting for a Senior Technical Safety Engineer to support process safety engineering services to our operations business on a 12-month contract.
Hybrid Working - working from home and some days a week expected in our Stockton or Glasgow office
The Operations business delivers services to brownfield and greenfield projects across multiple sectors including Onshore Oil & Gas, refining, petrochemicals, bulk and fine chemicals, and pharma along with emerging technologies such as Hydrogen and Carbon Capture. Our Technical Safety team also provides specialist support to other parts of the business including consultancy services and provision of independent safety review co-ordinators and facilitators.
You will be providing Technical Safety support to multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure effective implementation of safety and environmental regulatory requirements whilst observing risk management processes. This includes providing support under the CDM, DSEAR, COMAH and EPR regulations in the UK.
Scope of services to be provided
1. Produce Technical Safety engineering deliverables as required in support of work scopes delivered within a portfolio of projects as part of term services frameworks.
2. Develop safety engineering philosophies, design HSE plans, safety specifications, equipment specifications
3. Arrange and participate in formal process safety assessments such as HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, Bow Tie Analysis and SIL target setting studies, and generate study reports
4. Lead formal process safety studies
5. Input to, and participation at, project design assurance reviews such as P&ID reviews, HAZCON, Constructability reviews
6. Carryout active and passive fire protection assessments including, but not limited to, fire risk assessments, fire protection philosophies, fire water demand calculations, fire water adequacy checks, hydraulic calculations using PIPENET spray/sprinkler module and fire water system adequacy checks and performance monitoring
7. Carry out consequence analysis including gas dispersion, thermal radiation and blast modelling
8. Hazardous area classification following industry codes and guidance (BS 60079, EI15, IGEM SR/25)
9. Develop and implement functional safety management plans (BS EN-61511)
10. BAT and ALARP demonstrations
11. Management of specialist consultants
12. Produce and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations; ensuring that they conform to engineering quality, competence, and project management systems
13. Provide technical support to projects and sites as required
14. Attend client meetings and communicate issues with lead engineer as required.
15. Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement
16. Ensure self-awareness of relevant regulatory framework, legislative changes, initiatives and industry technology developments
17. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of process safety and environmental engineering methodologies, software systems, and design practices as they relate to FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start-up
18. Assist Project Management to assess risks both qualitatively and quantitatively, while making major engineering decisions
19. Awareness of international codes and standards

Who we are looking for:
24. Degree in relevant Engineering Discipline
25. Chartered Engineer
26. Relevant project experience
27. Fluent in written and spoken English
28. Applicants should be able to obtain a UK security clearance
Desirable:
29. Post-graduate qualification in process safety-related subjects
30. Awareness of process operations
31. Competent user of industry-standard software packages such as PIPENET, DNV PHAST, exSILentia, PHA Pro, HAZOP Manager
32. Certified Hazard Study Leader
33. Demonstrable experience in leading safety studies (HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA)
34. DSEAR risk assessment experience
35. CDM Awareness
