Are you looking for Autonomy, Pace, Variety and Impact.
No two days are the same in NELFT Urgent Care. You’ll hit the ground running, make confident clinical decisions, and see patients through their entire urgent care journey.

NELFT is looking for experienced Urgent Care Practitioners (Band 7) to join our busy Urgent Treatment Centres across four sites. This is an exciting opportunity for autonomous clinicians who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working at the top of their scope of practice.

You will play a vital role in delivering autonomous clinical practice and leadership within NELFT’s Urgent Care services, supporting a diverse population across multiple sites, and managing presentations ranging from minor to more complex urgent care cases, with access to radiology, follow-up clinics, and established community pathways.

Our UTCs operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we offer flexible shift patterns across days, nights and weekends to support work–life balance.

Main duties of the job

About You

You will :

1. be a Registered General Nurse / AHP with evidence of autonomous practice in Minor Illnesses and Minor Injuries and relevant post registration qualifications.
2. Have completed Minor Injuries and Minor Illness modules
3. Have the ability to support and manage patients of all ages including assessment diagnosing, treatment and discharge in Minor Injuries and Minor Illness
4. Have A&E/ Urgent Care experience

Our Urgent Treatment Centres operate24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing care when patients need it most. Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15%of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941 - per annum, pro rata for part time).

Welcome Payment

This post is eligible for the Trust 'Welcome to NELFT' Payment, a lump sum of 10% of agreed basic salary (pro rata if part time and exclusive of HCAS payments) (subject to a minimum of £4,000 and maximum of £10,000) and is open to all new applicants who are successfully appointed. Payment of the incentive is 50% of the lump sum at the end of the probationary period (typically six months) and then 50% at the end of year two. This welcome package is applicable to external candidates only.

Candidates should be aware that welcome payments are subject to a compulsory 2 year employment period within the role.

Although we are a registered sponsor organisation, we are unable
to offer sponsorship for all job roles. Please check your eligibility
under the UKVI points-based system. When calculating the basic
salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High-Cost Area Supplement) is not

Education & Training

Essential criteria

5. Registered General Nurse (1st level) or AHP with the Health & Care Professional Council
6. At least one of the following: Appropriate RSCN, RMN, RM, A/E qualification, Nurse practitioner qualification, Diploma or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

7. NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy
8. Accredited minor injuries course
9. Accredited minor illness course

Desirable criteria

10. Independent prescribing
11. Physical assessment course or equivalent

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

12. An awareness of CQC and clinical governance priorities
13. Ability to support and manage a case-load of patients including assessment, planning, monitoring and evaluation, including providing health promotion and education to patients and carers
14. Ability to organise and deliver a high standard of research based clinical nursing care including developing and implementing policies and protocols
15. Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
16. Ability to liaise effectively with members of the Primary Health Care Team and other agencies
17. Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise work
18. Ability to act as a role model and leader to others and to motivate a team
19. Ability to provide clinical training and education to the Urgent Care team
20. Professional knowledge acquired through Degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training experience to Masters equivalent
21. Knowledge of local community and understanding of a multi-cultural, racially diverse population
22. Knowledge of current professional issues relating to speciality
23. Understanding of patient confidentiality
24. Understanding of equal opportunities

Experience

Essential criteria

25. Previous experience in a Band 6 post or equivalent to apply for Band 7 post working as an autonomous Practitioner at least 2 years.
26. Demonstrate recent clinical management such as previous team leader or clinical tutor
27. Demonstrate recent experience of working in an ED setting with evidence of physical assessment and diagnostic skills
28. Has a range of clinical skills and expertise relevant to the role • suturing / wound closure

Desirable criteria

29. Willingness to undertake patient group directions or non-medical prescribing
