Objective of role
The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and London Borough of Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who are working together to create a ground-breaking shared staffing structure across both boroughs.
Wandsworth Borough Council have a team of building safety inspectors who are responsible for ensuring the safety of residents in our housing stock, performing regular inspections of communal areas of our housing stock and front entry doors to individual properties, whilst referring to the current fire risk assessments of each building.
Unfortunately, some residents do not conform to instructions regarding fire safety advice and legislation, forcing us to consider legal action. This can include non-fire-resistant front doors of leaseholders and hazardous rubbish and fly tips being left in communal areas.
About The Role
We are looking for an individual on an initial n fixed term contract until 31.12.2026, to be responsible for ensuring that doors are compliant; this may require the appropriate letter(s) before action to be served, followed by an injunction being sought as necessary. This will involve liaison with the building Safety team and South London Legal Partnership (SLLP).
It is important that the successful candidates are strong communicators, are able to remain calm under pressure and be able to prioritise and organize a large workload. Due to the nature of this role candidates should be able to show evidence of being able to work as part of a team as well as being able to meet time specific targets.
Successful Candidates will be expected to work a 36-hour week Monday - Friday with standard office hours, however, start times may be flexible. They will be entitled to 32 days annual leave and 8 Bank Holidays per year. Due to the nature of the role, there is some scope for home working, however this will only apply after initial training has been completed and competency in the role is shown.

This role also includes inspecting doors on our estates and ensuring they are compliant. Training will be provided.
Essential Qualifications, Skills And Experience
Have a good understanding of the building and fire safety legislation as it applies to residential buildings and estates and the importance of compartmentation in ensuring the safety of residents.
Have a practical understanding of building construction and services.
An understanding and commitment to the Councils equalities policies and an awareness of the Councils safeguarding requirements.
Ability to deal with the public face to face, in a variety of situations, which may occasionally be stressful.
Ability to prepare short written reports.
