On Site Transport Manager
Objectives
Johnsons Belfast provides high quality textile rental service across two main market sectors, Healthcare and Hospitality.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated On-Site Transport Manager to lead our Transport Department. This pivotal role is responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic direction of our transport operations, reporting directly to the Logistics Manager. This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and a passion for continuous improvement in transport operations. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and compliant running of our logistics activities.
Key Responsibilities:
· Take full responsibility for the organisation and efficiency of the Transport Department
· Provide strategic advice and operational planning to the Logistics Manager
· Manage all drivers, scheduling, rota planning, rest days, and daily performance
· Coordinate recruitment and selection of drivers with HR
· Provide coaching, training, and manage any performance or disciplinary matters in line with HR policies
· Oversee vehicle checks, cleanliness, compliance, and safety of the entire fleet
· Monitor, review, and manage relationships with fleet maintenance contractors
· Ensure full compliance with all Ministry of Transport and VOSA legislation
· Evaluate and optimise daily route scheduling for maximum efficiency
· Deliver and maintain safe systems of work, including manual handling and compliance training
· Work closely with the Logistics Manager to monitor departmental budgets and costs
· Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality in all company and staff matters
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
· Proven experience in transport or logistics management
· Strong working knowledge of transport legislation and compliance (including VOSA regulations)
· Experience managing drivers, schedules, and training
· Excellent organisational and leadership skills
· Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
· Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with HR, senior management, and operations teams
· The role requires a full, clean UK driving licence
· Commitment to safety, compliance, and service excellence
