Milk Education are working with a welcoming primary school in Ponteland who are seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This long-term role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, both within the classroom and through targeted small-group or 1:1 support.
This position is ideal for someone with a passion for making a meaningful impact on the learning and wellbeing of children with SEND.
What We’re Looking For
You do not need a formal TA qualification, but you must have:
* Recent experience (within the last 5 years) working with children, ideally including some SEN exposure
* A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
* Good communication and relationship-building skills
* Confidence working with children who may have:
* Autism / communication needs
* Speech & language delays
* Social, emotional, or behavioural needs
* Mild to moderate learning difficulties
* A flexible and positive attitude
* Willingness to follow SEN strategies under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
Your Responsibilities May Include:
* Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs
* Running small-group interventions
* Adapting learning activities to suit individual needs
* Supporting communication, social skills, and emotional regulation
* Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in lessons
* Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff
* Helping create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
