The Head of Sport provides strategic and operational management for the College’s Sport Academies, ensuring high‑quality provision, strong performance pathways, and an excellent student experience. This non‑teaching role oversees the line management of Lead Coaches across six established sports—Basketball, Football, Hockey, Rowing, Rugby and Netball—with the addition of a Cricket pathway launching next academic year.
The role carries significant operational responsibility, including acting as the College’s primary contact for AoC Sport, coordinating all competitive fixtures, and managing the associated logistics such as transport, facilities, officials, equipment, and first‑aid provision. The Head of Sport also supports coaching staff in liaising with curriculum teams to ensure students are appropriately released from lessons to attend fixtures, tournaments, and other sporting commitments.
A key part of the role involves ensuring each academy operates in full compliance with the relevant National Governing Body (NGB) regulations, including safeguarding, eligibility, coaching standards, and competition requirements. The postholder is also responsible for managing budgets associated with the academies, ensuring resources are used effectively and financial processes are followed.
Alongside day‑to‑day operations, the postholder plays a strategic role in shaping the long‑term success of the academies. This includes maintaining strong succession planning for coaching staff, supporting senior management with the recruitment and enrolment of students into academy programmes, and working closely with kit suppliers and partners. The role also focuses on building and sustaining relationships with local schools, community organisations, and sports clubs to strengthen pathways, enhance participation, and promote the College’s sporting profile.
This position will suit someone who thrives in a busy, varied environment and takes pride in creating opportunities for young athletes to succeed.
For the right candidate, the College is willing to consider a relocation package.
