Job Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team of consultants. The post-holder must have a specialist interest in hip and knee arthroplasty to a fellowship standard. The post-holder will be expected to take part in the on call trauma rota.
Position Details
This post is a permanent full‑time (10PA) Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. The post-holder will provide a comprehensive trauma and orthopaedic service to approximately 500,000 people across the local population. The department offers an active postgraduate teaching and research programme and includes 18 junior and career grade medical staff who will be involved in teaching programmes.
Location
The post will be based at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage city, and will rotate operating duties at the Sulis Orthopaedic Centre (SOC).
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert clinical care and offer independent clinical opinion on a range of emergency and elective orthopaedic problems.
* Take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
* Participate in audit, governance, directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Clinical Lead in Trauma & Orthopaedics.
* Maintain professional expertise through attendance at meetings and courses and have a commitment to research and teaching, undertaking projects and courses to enhance the department and trust.
Qualifications – Essential Criteria
* Full GMC Registration
* An appropriate higher orthopaedic surgical qualification.
Clinical Experience – Essential Criteria
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective disorders within the specialty.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Fellowship training in knee surgery.
Management and Administrative Experience – Essential Criteria
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the specialist service.
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities and waiting lists.
* Ability to develop multi‑professional team.
