Cardiac Physiologist
The Lancashire Cardiac Centre is a tertiary cardiac provider for the people of Lancashire & Cumbria. The post holder will be a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist in the Cardiac Investigations Unit, working autonomously within the CIU department with duties including specialised cardiac investigations such as diagnostic and interventional cardiology, permanent pacemaker implants & follow-up, and routine non-invasive investigations.
Participation in an out of hours on call service for emergencies is an obligation for this post. You will be expected to develop your knowledge and skill into a specialist route of either echocardiography or cardiac rhythm management, as part of this role.
Main duties of the job
* Be technically proficient as an independent practitioner in basic and specialist invasive and non-invasive cardiology procedures, including:
* Diagnostic angiography – Monitor and recording of cardiac physiological measurements during the procedure.
* Interventional angiography; i.e. PCI, Stents, intra vascular ultrasound and pressure wire – Recording lead function tests to guide a secure implantation.
* Permanent pacemaker implantation – Recording accurate lead function tests to guide a secure implantation of cardiac pacing leads.
* Routine implantable device follow up – Working independently to record accurate lead function tests, making clinical decisions for basic reprogramming.
* Analysis of ambulatory ECG recordings producing a factual report that may impact on clinical management.
* Exercise Stress Testing & Cardiopulmonary Exercise services – Assist the lead Cardiac Physiologist during the procedure and aid in the production of a technical report.
* Doctor-supervised Exercise Stress Testing – Production of good quality ECG and blood pressure tracing.
* Tilt testing – Assist lead CP/Supervising doctors.
* Participation in the on-call rota for PPCI, Emergency angiography & intervention, pacemaker implantation & implantable device checks.
* Supervision of junior staff in all aspects of invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures.
Analysis of ambulatory ECG recordings and related reporting to support patient management.

The centre has well-established invasive and non-invasive services with a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services including cardiac angiography, intervention (Primary PCI, TAVI, ASD/PFO closure), device implants (ICD, CRT) and device follow-ups, EP (simple and complex) including NAVX, PVAC and CRYO, echocardiography (including TOE, contract/bubble and DSE).
We are recruiting Band 5 Cardiac Physiologists in the Cardiac Investigations Unit. Candidates should have good experience in cardiology procedures and be willing to progress their career. The post holder will possess a BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent and be RCCP registered. The department works unsupervised in most areas with training plans provided to address training needs.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* BSc Clinical Physiology
* British Cardiac Society (BCS), Society of Cardiological Technicians (SCST) or RCCP registration
* Immediate Life Support or Advanced Life Support (within last 12 months)
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience in technical cardiology and a full range of non-invasive and invasive procedures
* Good IT knowledge (Word, Excel, databases)
* Basic knowledge in performing and reporting echocardiography
Skills and Ability
* Ability to work autonomously
* Dynamic and enthusiastic; team player

* Knowledge of national professional and NHS guidelines for service provision and quality
