Job Overview LAS FY2 As this is to cover a trainee post this will give you the opportunity to rotate within different specialties within the IHC which can include, General Surgery, Anaesthetics, Paediatrics, Stroke, Care of the Elderly, Renal, Respiratory, Cardiology etc The rotation happens every 4 months August December April Main duties of the job The candidate will be responsible, both professionally and managerially, to Dr H Nair clinical Director for medicine. You will also be supervised by a team of consultants 08.00 hrs till 21.30 hrs on site 21:30-08:00 off site. He/she will: The job will be providing cover to the medical patients in the ward from 08.00 hrs until 17.00 hrs on a day-to-day basis and is not part of the on call rota. Provide in reach to Emergency Department patients that require review post ward rounds. Advising and liaising with GPs, preventing admission and utilising alternative appropriate pathways. Cover within SDEC to review of GP admission patients (as per the national SDEC model patient management) Cover within SDEC to review patients within ward and re-attenders / redirected from ED Implement Hot-Clinics for rapid review of appropriate patients Support with medical patients within SAU (EQ) Provide leadership and education to the junior doctors on the team. Participate in Clinical Audit and CPD, which is fully supported by the Health Board. Working for our organisation Glan Clwyd Hospital opened in 1980 and is a modern District General Hospital providing a comprehensive range of services to the population of North Wales, between Llandudno and Flint and the adjacent inland rural communities. It serves a population of approximately 220,000 with a considerable influx of holidaymakers in the summer months. There are 513 acute hospital beds on the Glan Clwyd site. An Acute Psychiatric Unit (Ablett Unit) is located on the Glan Clwyd site, as is the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, which provides care for the North Wales population. The Division of Emergency and Integrated Medicine includes eight medical wards, including an 8-bedded Cardiac Care Unit, a 28 bedded Acute Medicine Unit and three Care of the Elderly wards. There is also a busy Emergency Department, a Gastroenterology Unit and a Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory within the Division. The Renal and Diabetes Centre attached to the site was opened in September 2004. There are excellent pathology facilities within the hospital, including a Public Health Laboratory. The Radiology Department offers a full range of facilities, including a new CT and MRI Unit. Postgraduate facilities are excellent, with a dedicated centre and a large, state-of-the-art, award-winning Library within the hospital complex. There are six community hospitals within the hospital’s main catchment area and peripheral out-patient clinics are held in most of these. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities Educational standards are consistently high in both the primary and secondary sectors. Extensive use is made of computing facilities and other up-to-date learning methods. Within Clwyd the major academic institution is the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education which caters for the needs of some 14,000 full and part-time students. The Health Authority has strong links with the Institute and has collaborated in the establishment of Health Studies Unit. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria MBBS or equivalent medical qualification Desirable criteria Additional Qualifications, e.g. BSc, MSc, PhD or equivalent Additional academic achievements, eg prizes, publications, presentations Eligbility Essential Criteria Full GMC Registration Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences by appointment in line with GMC standards Desirable criteria Evidence of experience in such as Medical specialties e.g. cardiology, COE medicine and respiratory medicine Surgical specialties, such as Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracic, Plastic, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General or Oral-Maxillofacial surgery Successful completion of 1 of the 3 UK advanced life support provider training courses (ALS, ATLS and APLS) or equivalent courses Fitness to Practise Essential Criteria Is up to date and fit to practice safely Knowledge and Achievements Essential Criteria Has achieved appropriate level of core competencies Audit and research Educational & Personal Aspects Desirable criteria Demonstration of educational reasons for applying for this foundation programme Demonstration of personal reasons for applying for this foundation programme Essential Criteria Communication & Interpersonal Skills Able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English (IELTS 7.5) Evidence of communication skills Evidence of patient focused care Evidence of team working skills Desirable criteria Evidence of leadership skills
