Robert Half are proud to be supporting an insurance client to recruit a highly motivated and technically strong Project Accountant to support with the centralisation of finance following a recent entity integration. This role is critical in driving improvements across finance processes, enhancing control environments, and supporting the smooth integration of two centralised finance teams.
The successful candidate will be a fully qualified accountant with strong technical accounting, project accounting, and process improvement experience, ideally with exposure to insurance or broader financial services.
Location: Central Bristol (Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days remote)
Reporting to: Head of Finance
Contract: 6-Month FTC (potential extension)
Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 (flexible depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the smooth integration of two centralised finance teams, ensuring continuity and minimal disruption.
2. Map, document, and potentially redesign finance processes to improve control, efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
3. Evaluate existing financial controls and implement improvements to ensure compliance, robustness, and audit readiness.
4. Resolve complex balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
5. Investigate and clear aged items, collaborating with relevant teams to identify root causes.
6. Drive process improvement initiatives across claims, debtors, and insurance-related tax.
7. Support change management, including training for the centralised finance team.
8. Collaborate across finance and operational teams to improve end-to-end finance processes.
9. Support internal and external audit requirements related to the transition.
10. Work closely with IT and Operations, ensuring alignment and minimal resistance to process changes.
Candidate Profile:
11. Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
12. Strong technical accounting background with project delivery experience.
13. Proven experience in process improvement, streamlining, and controls implementation.
14. Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data modelling, manipulating large datasets).
15. Experience working with finance systems.
16. Insurance/financial services experience highly desirable: claims control accounts, premium tax & debtors.
17. Curious and inquisitive mindset - someone who challenges existing practices, asks the right questions, and drives meaningful change.
18. Energetic, resilient, and comfortable working with large volumes of complex data.
19. Ideally insurance experience, would consider financial services.
