The National Spinal Injuries Centre is a world-renowned specialist national centre for people with spinal cord injury – a centre that’s life-changing for everyone who comes into contact with it and the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.

We are looking for people to join our fantastic and friendly Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) family as a healthcare support worker within the NSIC. No previous experience needed and we have full and part time roles available.

This is a great opportunity for candidates who are looking to step into healthcare for the first time, or for those who are already in healthcare and want to work for an NHS Trust. Healthcare Support Workers play a crucial role in all aspects of care delivery for our patients.

Main duties of the job

If successful, you will be joining a team of dedicated professionals. We will provide training to ensure you have the skills for the role and offer development opportunities to realise your career potential. You will be enrolled onto a healthcare support worker induction programme, ensuring you feel supported as you take the first steps into your new career.

Please note most of our wards operate a 24-hour shift rotation across a 7-day service. We are recruiting to full and part time hours, however for the role of a healthcare support worker, you will be expected to work shift patterns, unfortunately we are unable to offer set days/working patterns.

The minimum part time hours we recruit to is 23 hours per weeks. Shift times as follows: -

07:00-19:30 Long day shift

19:30-07:00 – Night shift

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

1. Level 2 or level 3 (NVQ) in health and social care or equivalent relevant experience
2. Willing to work towards level 2 functional skills (Maths and English)
3. Care Certificate/working towards

Experience

4. Experience of working with people, ideally in a front-line customer service role.

Desirable criteria

5. Experience of providing person centred care

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria

13. An understanding of the importance of patient confidentially and privacy.
14. Demonstrates a caring, compassionate and empathetic approach to patient’s and colleagues, whilst having a professional approach.
15. Recognise how patients and colleagues need to be treated with dignity and respect and can demonstrate these behaviours in their daily work
16. Good verbal and written English communication skills
17. The ability to respond with kindness and humanity to patients
18. A flexible and adaptable approach with the aptitude to work in a busy hospital healthcare setting
19. Willingness to undertake the mentorship of new Nursing Assistants after 12 months in post
20. Basic knowledge of health and safety with an awareness of the importance of following Trust policies and procedures
21. An appreciation of equality, diversity and inclusion and how this influences how care is provided to patients
22. A willingness to provide the highest standards of patient care including personal care
23. Ability to work as part of a team
24. Good understanding of care needs relevant to patient’s in a hospital setting to include: Eating and drinking Dignity and respect Communication/conflict resolution Handwashing and infection control Hygiene needs Safeguarding
25. Understands the limit and scope of their job role and the need to only do tasks they are trained to do.
26. Knows when to escalate to a registered nurse when the situation is beyond their scope of practice

PPE requirements: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust requires all colleagues to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with our infection prevention and control procedures.

COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations remain the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course our patients from the viruses when working in our healthcare settings. We encourage our staff to be vaccinated when recommended.

Smoking: All Trust sites are NO SMOKING. Smoking in all areas of the buildings and premises is prohibited.
