Overview
The Community Payback Supervisor is an operational role that supervises groups of offenders serving community sentences, drives service vehicles, and ensures community projects are completed. The position offers the chance to make a positive impact on communities through unpaid work placement projects, such as building benches, cleaning streets and restoring public spaces.
Working Hours
Regular hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with required weekend work on Saturdays and Sundays. The post holder may need to cover alternative weekdays and evenings on a schedule that is agreed with the successful candidate. Weekend days worked are paid at a 50 % higher rate.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a group of offenders at Community Payback unpaid work placement sites for up to 7 hours each day.
- Drive service vehicles to transport people, equipment and materials to project sites.
- Ensure all tasks are completed to the best of the offenders’ ability, including over‑growth clearance, playground or hall restoration, tree planting, flowerbed installation, litter picking and graffiti removal.
- Maintain accurate records of time worked, safety incidents and supervision activities.
- Co‑operate with probation officers and community partners to meet project objectives.
- Advocate for safety, welfare and wellbeing of offenders during their placement.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Full UK Manual Driving Licence.
- Right to work in the UK and comply with Civil Service nationality rules.
- Previous experience in supervising or managing small teams a strong preference.
- Experience or training in workplace health and safety and manual work supervision.
- Good communication skills, empathy and a willingness to lead diverse individuals.
Pay & Benefits
- Starting salary of £28,064 per annum, with annual pay progression through the Competency Based Framework.
- Annual leave: 25 days on appointment, increasing to 30 days after five years of service plus public holidays.

Additional Information
All candidates are subject to security and identity checks before the post is offered. Only candidates who had a Skilled Worker visa before 22 July 2025 are eligible for sponsorship. The successful applicant must be prepared to work within 60 minutes of their home location and is expected to maintain the legal right to work in the UK.
