Applications are invited for a whole‑time or part‑time substantive Consultant Anaesthetist post. The Anaesthetic department at Leicester General Hospital supports a wide range of surgical specialties and the East Midlands Planned Care Centre. The role requires contribution to departmental quality improvement activity and the clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees in Anaesthesia.
Main Duties of the Job
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
* Share responsibility with colleagues for the day‑to‑day management of patients.
* Promote new ways of working, co‑ordinating care for patients in the community and ensuring services are based on effective integrated partnerships.
* Take part in multidisciplinary case discussions, supervise and train junior medical staff, and appraise and assess juniors.
* Teach, research and administer services; develop the service proactively.
* Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

Job Responsibilities
* Support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
* Provide a safe and efficient Anaesthetic service for elective theatres and delivery suite emergency care, including pre‑operative assessment and peri‑operative care.
* Deliver specialist high‑risk Anaesthesia outpatient clinic work and participate in the non‑resident on‑call rota and weekend working.
* Support the Anaesthetic department in delivering high‑quality elective and emergency theatre sessions and provide flexibility to support the service.
* Work flexibly to cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
* Participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with other Consultants, CMG, local GPs and commissioners.
* Supervise and manage junior medical staff, observing local employment and human resource policies.
* Engage in medical audit, Clinical Governance processes and CPD; attendance at audit and governance meetings is mandatory.
* Take managerial and budgetary responsibilities where appropriate and comply with standing orders and financial instructions.
* Ensure duties are carried out to the highest possible standard in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice.
* Teach and train junior staff and other clinical staff groups; provide supervision and career advice to junior medical staff.
* Participate in professional continuing medical education; study leave is provided.

Person Specification – Qualifications & Training
* MBBS or Equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview date, or meeting CESR requirements.
