Responsibilities
* Perform complex test procedures, recording and reporting outcomes with accuracy.
* Offer specialist technical advice to service users and support the department's clinical and technical excellence.
* Train and mentor trainees and support staff, ensuring optimal use of resources.
* Deputise for senior staff when required, ensuring the smooth running of the department.
* Participate in routine and specialised tasks within the Cellular Pathology department, adhering to departmental protocols.
* Contribute to departmental research projects and uphold the commitment to scientific advancement and excellence.
Qualifications and Requirements
* As a registered Biomedical Scientist, maintain professional and technical competencies through mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with HCPC requirements, and uphold standards of the Trust, HCPC, and IBMS.
* Knowledge of histology and cytology procedures, laboratory computerisation, PC office applications, quality management systems, and UKAS accreditation; experience in immunocytochemistry testing.
* Desirable: technical problem solving with a range of procedures and equipment; experience preparing diagnostic cytology samples; training of staff.
* Knowledge of quality and clinical audits within a cellular pathology service; awareness of UKAS accreditation and standards; health and safety knowledge including COSHH and fire regulations; awareness of current professional issues.
* Good interpersonal skills; evidence of ongoing CPD; ability to maintain prolonged concentration and accuracy; ability to train and instruct staff.
* Education and Qualifications: BSc Biomedical Science, HCPC Registration, relevant IBMS Specialist Portfolio or Diploma of Specialist Practice, postgraduate qualification or UK NARIC equivalent, and two years NHS experience; ongoing CPD evidence.
* Desirable: membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences; additional training in related laboratory areas (e.g., NEBOSH, Certificate of Expert Practice).

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required; post subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and disclosure check.
* UK Registration: current UK professional registration required.
