Role Overview
The Special Care Dental Service provides NHS dental treatment to patients with complex needs across multiple clinics in Sussex.
Location: Primarily based in Worthing (2 days), Chichester (1 day), with one day in Brighton each alternate week supporting the GA session. Flexibility to cover other clinics as required.
Operating hours: Mondays to Fridays, 08:30 am to 4:30 pm, also providing domiciliary service.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide dental treatment under local anaesthesia, sedation, and day case general anaesthesia for patients with physical, sensory, intellectual, mental, medical, emotional, or social impairments.
* Deliver dento‑alveolar surgery and restorative treatment, managing medically compromised patients.
* Supervise and develop teaching for the dental team, including dental therapists and Band A and B dentists.
* Lead outreach activities to support the development of clinicians across the service.
* Maintain and implement clinical excellence standards, including audit, benchmarking, patient feedback, and performance reviews.
* Support the Consultant in Special Care Dentistry and referral management.
* Assist in planning, development, and day‑to‑day operational management of the service.
* Depreciate and deputise for senior colleagues where required.
* Contribute to specialty training programmes in Paediatric Dentistry where possible.
Qualifications & Experience
While a formal Person Specification is attached, the role requires a qualified dentist with experience in special care dentistry, the ability to work independently and in a team, and a commitment to high‑quality patient care.
