Job overview

The People and Vehicle Support Manager role is pivotal in bringing together all aspects of resource capacity, optimising its availability to provide optimal operational performance and efficiency on a day to day basis.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible and accountable for:

1. To line manage a group of staff who are customer service focused and solution centric in their management of planned and unplanned out of service events
2. Ensure the optimal provision of staffing to deliver service levels;
3. Escalation of hospitals within framework
4. To critically identify any incidents of concern that may require intervention of an operational manager to support staff members.
5. Provide tactical support as required at times of operational pressure, such as surge or during a serious or major incident.
6. Manage individual performance of TOC staff;
7. Maintain policy and working guidelines for operatives and staff regarding out of service;
8. Communication with Incident Response and Support Managers to support mutual delivery of efficiency in service;
9. Providing first line leadership and management to a team of operatives;
10. Analysing data and developing strategies and tactics to achieve reduced lost production time;
11. Optimising the availability of produced resources to control services;
12. Conducting disciplinary investigations and serious incident investigations as required;
13. Provide information to managers and make service improvement recommendations to the senior team; and
14. Any other reasonable task as required by the Trust commensurate with optimising in day performance and the Strategic and Tactical objectives of the day.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

15. Demonstrating Continuous Personal Development including leadership, organisation development and change management.
16. Demonstrate an understanding of Operational and Control Services policies and procedures.
17. Prioritising conflicting demands and often unpredictable work patterns.
18. Ability to demonstrate visible leadership in challenging and stressful situations.
19. Investigation and report writing skills.
20. A good understanding or Road Traffic Law to support crews following vehicle defects or damage.
21. Ability to develop tactical working plan to meet strategic objectives.
22. Ability to deliver and improve key operational performance.
23. Ability to communicate and influence in stressful situations.
24. Ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of the Organisation in the operational setting to support corporate aims and objectives.
25. Investigating complex complaints.

Desirable criteria

26. Have a good understanding of GRS, AMPDS and the ICCS radio system.
27. Knowledge of the use of the Business Intelligence Portal.
28. A frontline operational background.

Personal Qualities, Abilities and Attributes

Essential criteria

30. Initiating, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external key stakeholders, developing partnerships and cooperative working.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

32. A degree level of education, or appropriate professional environmental experience
33. A first line Managers qualification equivalent to ILM level 4 or above
34. An ambulance frontline qualification (Paramedic, EMT).

Experience

Essential criteria

35. Demonstrable environmental experience in a frontline ambulance role.
36. Management experience in an acute operational setting at the same or similar level.
