Overview
Senior Civil Engineer role at Arup in Southampton, United Kingdom. The team is part of Arup’s Energy, Water and Resources (EWR) group and operates across London and south-east offices. The civil engineering and water team is located in Winchester and will move to a new Arup office in Southampton during Autumn 2025.
Responsibilities
* Candidates should have excellent communication, technical and leadership skills and enjoy working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion, striving for excellence in delivery.
* Reporting to the Winchester Civil Engineering sub-team leader, you will be responsible for: Managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, planning resources and monitoring commercial performance.
* Leading the preparation and review of technical deliverables relevant to civil engineering including drawings, reports, specifications and presentations.
* Line managing a small number of technical staff (engineers and technicians) including appraisals and performance development.
* Embracing the Culture, Equity and Inclusion strategy and vision, both through your own behaviour and influencing others.
* Contributing to a culture of technical excellence and the development of technical skills within the wider team through planning and delivery of initiatives and training.
* Contributing to ambitious growth plans on the South Coast through involvement in business development, work winning and client relationship management.
Qualifications
* A highly motivated individual, you will have achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status of a relevant professional institution (such as ICE or equivalent).
* Degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
* Strong technical background in civil engineering areas such as earthworks, roads and streets, public realm, utilities, flood risk and drainage, with an interest in related aspects (planning and project management, sustainability, carbon management, infrastructure resilience).
* Excellent communication and presentation skills with clients and team members.
* Ability to manage a complex and varied workload with multiple concurrent projects, with a track record of successful project completion in UK and/or internationally.
* Ability to motivate and lead others, focus on design excellence, and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
