Are you a Qualified Teaching Assistant who understands that progress looks different for every child?
We’re supporting specialist schools in South Shields looking for compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistants to work with pupils with autism and additional communication needs.
The role
In this role, you’ll help create structure, consistency, and reassurance for pupils who thrive with routine and strong relationships. You’ll support learning, communication, sensory regulation, and emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.
Many schools use supply as a way of recruiting permanent staff, so this could be an excellent opportunity to secure a long-term position.
What you’ll be doing
Supporting pupils with autism during learning and transitions
Using visual aids and communication strategies
Promoting emotional regulation and engagement
Working closely with teachers and therapists
Helping pupils build confidence and independence
What we’re looking for
Qualified TA status (Level 2/3 or equivalent)
Experience supporting autism or complex needs
A consistent, reliable, and nurturing approach
Strong teamwork and communication skills
A commitment to inclusion and child-centred support
