Consultant Medical Microbiologist/Consultant in Infectious Diseases

The successful applicant will work as a Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Infectious Diseases at the Norfolk and Norwich University Teaching Hospital and Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA).

A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job: This is a replacement post to join a team of Consultant Microbiologist and Virologist in sharing the provision of day-to-day clinical microbiology, virology, infectious disease service and infection prevention and control services at Norfolk and Norwich University Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust (NNUHFT), James Paget University Hospital (JPUH), Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn (QEHKL) and the Norfolk region.

The successful candidate will be working alongside seven existing Microbiology consultants to provide a comprehensive microbiology and infectious disease service for the NNUHFT and the Eastern Pathology Alliance (EPA) including provision of cross-cover for infection prevention and control.

The post holder will participate in a single rota for out of hours cover across Norfolk resulting in an anticipated frequency of 1 in 8 at full capacity.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

* Full GMC Registration with license to practice
* FRCPath or Equivalent with Specialist registration
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
* Participation in recognized CPD and appraisal
Desirable:
* Further qualification such as: MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
* Teaching the Teachers or equivalent

Aptitudes:

* Capable of working in a multi disciplinary team.
* Enthusiasm for service development and teaching.
* Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
Desirable:
* Previous responsibility for service improvement.
* Management skills


Experience

Essential:

* Training and experience equivalent to that required for FRCpath
* Teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate level
* Wide experience of clinical microbiology, infectious disease, and infection control.
* Competent IT skills
* Training and expertise in children's safeguarding
Desirable:
* Experience in research or published papers in area of special interest

* Commitment to develop an appropriate specialist interest


Communications

Essential:

* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries.
Desirable:
* Good presentation skills.


Circumstances

Essential:

* Flexible outlook on working hours.
* Must live within a 15-mile radius of the base Trust or 30 minutes travelling time.
* Ability to travel across multi-sites whilst public transport may not be available.
