Purpose and scope of the role
Tetra Tech is recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the Water Team supporting long‑term water industry frameworks across the UK. You will operate on flagship capital delivery projects, providing commercial support across optioneering, outline and detailed design phases. Day‑to‑day duties include preparing cost estimates, supporting procurement and tender activities, monitoring contractor performance and maintaining accurate financial records for multi‑million pound workstreams. You will work within a multidisciplinary team based in Lingley Mere or Sheffield and liaise with clients, contractors and senior commercial colleagues.
Your Impact In This Position
You will immediately bolster commercial controls and improve cost transparency on live projects. Over the medium term, you will lead elements of procurement, contribute to contracting strategy and manage variations and claims under senior guidance.
Core Capabilities
* Commercial estimation - Prepare detailed cost plans, material and labour schedules, and support robust estimating processes.
* Procurement & contracting - Assist tender pack development, evaluation and contract award, supporting sourcing strategies and supplier engagement.
* Cost control & reporting - Monitor project expenditure, certify payments, manage variations and maintain accurate financial records.
* Claims & dispute support - Support management of claims, variations and contractual disputes, ensuring compliant documentation and approvals.
* Stakeholder collaboration - Communicate clearly with clients, delivery teams and suppliers to drive outcomes, share knowledge and support social value objectives.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience
Expected: bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and a valid driving licence. Desirable: working towards chartership (ICS or similar) and formal procurement or commercial training.
Work patterns & locations
Hybrid role with local office attendance three days per week at Lingley Mere or Sheffield, and regular site visits across the North West and Yorkshire. Flexible arrangements are considered to support delivery.
