Overview
Join the Board of St Luke’s Advice Service (SLAS), a Brighton-based charity helping people facing financial hardship. We seek a trustee with skills in communication to help shape our future and strengthen our impact.
What difference will you make?
As a trustee, you’ll influence how we support vulnerable people, ensure good governance, and play a key role in our future success. Whether guiding strategic direction or strengthening our communications and fundraising efforts, your expertise will help ensure we remain resilient and effective. You’ll also support and challenge our Director, and champion the work of our staff and volunteers delivering frontline advice services.
Role profile and responsibilities
* Your expertise will help develop our social media presence and maintain our strong local reputation, especially in support of Individual Giving and donations campaigns.
* You will work closely with the Director of Operations and Fundraising and your support will help shape our fundraising strategy, and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and supporters, so we can support individuals in financial hardship.
* Alongside the Director, you will manage our funding pipeline and have oversight of grant applications and other fund-raising activity to secure the essential funding needed to continue our services.
What are we looking for?
We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in
* Written and social media communications and planning stakeholder management.
* Ensuring that all types of external communications are compelling and effective.
* Managing a pipeline of income, not necessarily fund-raising, but that would be an added advantage.
We can discuss your transferable skills and experience as well as your specific interests. We are open to finding a way to tailor these to add to our trustee skillset and range of accountabilities.
What will you be doing?
About The Opportunity St Luke’s Advice Service (SLAS) offers vital money and benefits advice to people in financial hardship across Brighton & Hove. We’re seeking two new trustees to join our passionate Board—one with a focus on Strategy, the other on Communications & Fundraising. This is a pivotal moment in our development, and your insights could help shape our long-term future.
Our Current Challenges & Goals
We are a small but impactful organisation, facing growing demand and a complex funding landscape. As we evolve, our Board is focused on ensuring we remain sustainable, strategic, and visible in the community.
* Our communications & fundraising trustee will strengthen our voice, improve outreach, and support income generation through compelling communications and stakeholder engagement.
We don’t require previous trustee experience; we’ll provide induction and training. We’re especially keen to hear from women, people from minoritised backgrounds, disabled people, and LGBTQ+ individuals.
