Ready to impact a better future? As a Maintenance Operative in our AASC team, you’ll help keep our properties safe, functional, and ready for the people who rely on them. Your work will have a real and positive impact on the experience and wellbeing of those living in our accommodation. You’ll play a key role in ensuring homes meet required standards, supporting colleagues with specialist trade knowledge where relevant, and helping maintain safe, welcoming environments. What you’ll do as a Maintenance Operative You’ll be entrusted to: Provide building maintenance services across a designated area or portfolio of properties. Report and close faults through our IT system to maintain accurate property records. Ensure all properties under your care are free from defects in line with Home Office contract requirements. Liaise with external subcontractors to support access, quality checks, and approvals. Complete annual Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for properties within your remit. Deliver specialist trade support where qualified, including advising colleagues and providing sign‑offs. Repair or arrange replacement of Serco‑supplied furniture where needed. Manage materials appropriately, using approved suppliers and keeping accurate records. Remove waste safely and ensure responsible disposal and recycling. Carry out garden maintenance where applicable. Identify cleaning requirements and raise appropriate actions. Prioritise work effectively to meet KPIs and complete inspections in collaboration with housing colleagues. Act as a liaison point for stakeholders such as landlords, local authorities, and the Home Office. Participate in agreed work patterns and take part in on‑call and out‑of‑hours rotas to support a 24/7 service. Does this sound like you? You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have: Experience in building maintenance, preferably with a relevant trade qualification. A valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel within the region. Strong problem‑solving skills and sound judgement. A collaborative approach and the ability to communicate effectively. A focus on safety, quality, and delivering a positive experience for our customers. Vetting and checks: This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
