We are working exclusively with a well-established and growing civil engineering consultancy based in Liverpool to appoint a Director to lead their Civil Engineering department. The role
Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will take full responsibility for the performance, growth, and technical output of the Civil Engineering division. This is a dual-focused position, you will provide strategic direction and commercial oversight while remaining hands-on with technical design across highways, drainage, infrastructure, and earthworks schemes.
You will be the face of the department for key clients and stakeholders, leading business development activity, supporting framework bids and tender submissions, and building on an already strong market reputation. Internally, you will lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers - with genuine influence over the shape of the business going forward.
Key responsibilities
Lead and manage the Civil Engineering team, driving high standards of performance, quality, and project delivery
Provide hands-on technical input across the design and delivery of highways, drainage, infrastructure, and earthworks projects
Oversee projects from initial feasibility through to construction completion
Review and sign off technical drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, local authorities, and key stakeholders
Lead business development activity, framework opportunities, and tender submissions
Manage team resources, programmes, and financial performance for profitable delivery
Mentor and support the development of engineers across the business
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and health & safety requirementsWhat we're looking for
Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
CEng MICE status (strongly preferred)
Significant experience within a civil engineering consultancy
Proven leadership - managing teams and delivering complex projects
Strong technical knowledge of drainage, highways, and infrastructure design
Excellent client-facing and commercial skills
