Job Overview
A Quality Technician’s primary responsibility will be to provide support to the Quality Engineers and Production team to ensure a right first time with zero defects approach. The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Head of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment.
Key Responsibilities
Follow Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) legislation and local HSE rules, raising issues where necessary
Challenge yourself and others as well as processes and procedures to guarantee safety and prevent quality issues in the field
On- and off-line programming of CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
Use of metrology, for example micrometre, vernier and height gauge.
Inspection of goods received in accordance with agreed sampling methodology
Inspection of finished product, e.g. First Article Inspection (FAI)
Provide guidance on product quality issues within the production process
Provide support to Engineers by creating and updating documentation for production operations, i.e.; quality alerts & visual instructions
Conduct internal audits and inspections
Attend daily shift meetings in Production and communicate any concerns / issues
Provide support to production to enable product confirmation, containment, and rework activity where required
Raise nonconformance reports (NCRs) where quality issues are identified
Support Quality Engineers to improve product quality and reduce internal non-conformance levels through participation in process improvement activities
Provide support and input when required with customer and supplier concern investigations
Operating our calibration system for all measurement and monitoring devices.
Supporting with Capability Studies.
Attend start of shift meetings within Production
Ad hoc tasks deemed necessary
The Requirements
We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:
Previous experience in a production environment
Able to read Engineering drawings
Able to use a range of measuring equipment, e.g. vernier callipers, micrometres, etc.
Good level of computer literacy – Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
Qualifications
A recognised qualification is required to demonstrate proficiency in key skills: English Literature, English Language, Maths and ICT.
An HNC or equivalent in the following discipline is required: manufacturing or engineering.
A qualification in a Quality discipline would be desirable.
Relevant experience could also be considered.
Bonus Points
It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:
Understanding in the use of Quality tools, such as 8D analysis, 5 Why, Ishikawa, is/is not
Awareness of: ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO/TS 22163, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
Electronic and/or Mechanical knowledge or experience
Previous experience within a similar role
